Over a tankard in front of the fire…

They say, in other lands, people meet and converse over boiled bean water, telling how the past tenday has been.

Don’t know what they got against mead or ale.

But pull up a chair and we’ll see if we can do better.

Was cold weather at the start. Been mild today and day before.

Got my arm bit burn, tending the fire at the festival. Doesn’t hurt though. Price you pay, eh?

Not much trade coming thru. Wonder if we’ll get bit more.

Might see about getting that Zemnian to teach me bit of the language. Helps to know a smattering. Can get you more coin, or let you know if they’re planning on running out.

Hmm, guess it was harder than thought, drinking and talking. Or cause nothing much doing. Might try again, though.

Tea & Coffee – #27

coffee-tea

I would say hello to you on the first sunny, warm day we have after about a week or so of rain and clouds. Actually didn’t wear my jacket on the way in. Still brought it with me, cause this is the Valley and you never know how the weather will go.

Well, this week was the first anniversary of Desert Words. Dance along.

Not too much else has happened this week. Have noticed myself enjoying some simple pleasures more as of late. Hope that continues.

My thoughts are already on what I’m going to do for the A-Z challenge and for Camp NaNo. Got topics for over half of the letters so far and wondering if should do rewrite of past efforts or new one for Camp.

Sorry if I keep staring out the window. Just such a nice day, had forgotten what blue skies looked like. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love me some rainy day and don’t mind getting wet. But just something about today outside keeps grabbing me. Simple pleasure, ya know. here’s a picture I took on the way in.

So last year I tried to do this thing some Lokiens do of writing something for Loki for each day in July. I got three days in last time and thinking of giving it another go this year.

Okay, sorry for spacing out again. This is getting ridiculous. I’ll just leave you with some of the music I’ve got playing on my player as recompense.

Ugh, been sliding on my NaNo.

‘Second verse, same as the first.’
(Five points if you know the song)

But it goes. Going to a write-in this week if it happens.

But I started up my drabbles again, so that’s something.

I don’t know, this week was kinda meh. Got stung by a bee for the first time ever. And found myself noting the spread of the venom just in case can use it in something.

And it’s starting to get cold for us. High one day was 67, then 70 the next. Though this weekend is supposed to be near 80 before going back down. Lows in 50s and 40s.

I’ve been wondering if I should pay for the blog upgrade next year. Seems like it might play merry hell with the links though.

Think I’ll leave you with some music today. Couple of cover tunes from actors from fave shows.

The first is Jensen Ackles, from Supernatural. Then George Blagden from Vikings.

Find out who else is sharing coffee.

… I would say nice to see you after a bit.

Not too much has happened. Went and saw Magic Mike for the second time with a friend of mine. Then we went over to another friend’s house and had an Outlander marathon, joined by MBM. It was basically a perv day and we decided we need to have more of them.

Taking a break from writing for a moment and doing some reading. Haven’t done that since I got thru the Harry Potter series late winter of this year.

Been reading The Killer Angels (again) by Michael Shaara and it’s prequel, Gods and Generals, by his son Jeff. More than likely going to read the rest of Jeff’s novels at some point. Very good.

But what got me on this reading jaunt is Zer0es by Chuck Wendig. You’ve heard me go on about him before, and this so didn’t disappoint. I’m thinking of starting a book journal and doing up review for here. Just hard to not give too much of the plot away, but still enough to interest others.

Did get another cool book, How to Be a Superhero by Mark Edlitz. Has a number of interview with actors who have played superheroes, sidekicks, villians, and anti-heroes. As you can see by the pictures, it’s an impressive list. And more in sidebar interviews in the back.

Other than that, like I said, not too much. Just motoring along.

Tea and Coffee #12 – Comicon edition

coffee-tea

Told you I was going to see you this week. But it was a bit of a cheat, cause I knew what I was going to tell you about.

PHOENIX COMICON 15

Me and MBM(On the way to Comicon)

Damn, do I love our Comicon! Was only able to go yesterday (last year did all four days). Third year for me, second for my best friend (known hereafter on this blog as MBM for Me Best Mate) That’s me on the left with the grey hair.

Phxcc2015(Guide with some of this year’s guests)

20150530_100902(Saturday only pass with Khal Drago drawing)

We didn’t plan on going to any of the panels or trying for any autographs, save for one on my part. We mostly wandered around the exhibitor’s hall looking at the merchandise. We did catch Chuck Wendig’s spotlight panel.

20150530_140518Chuck is delightfully mad and a great author. His was the autograph I wanted and I got it.

So, the rest of my loot that I acquired.

20150531_111432The artist was surprised we knew Tesla. There were two others in the set, Lovecraft and Einstein. Probably be getting those later.

20150531_111807Freebies from the Del Rey booth

20150531_111542There are ten in the series. I have the first and know where can get a few of the others but these two were a steal at the price.

20150531_111522Slowly getting all the movies. Another steal.

20150531_111341I like buttons. Will have to show you my bag after putting these on.

20150531_111411I looked at a few pics and merch for Tom!Loki before deciding on this one. Was the best quality and just a great pic. By the by, I wrote it as Tom!Loki on purpose. It comes from the fanfic world where we use the exclamation mark to describe different versions of characters (AU!Character, Vampire!Character).  This is Loki as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston, not Loki as most Heathens know Him.

20150531_111258Little more money and I would have gotten seasons 2 and 3 as well. That incense is great smelling.

Arthur and PatsyDid not expect such Royalty to be present.

Next year, MBM and I are planning to go and try our hand at cosplaying for the first time. She’s thinking of going as a character from one of her favorite animes. I have no idea who I want to be, or even a top five to pick from. Won’t be a complex costume, more subtle but recognizable.

We’re one of the top ten cons in the country and the guests we get are incredible. Here’s the list of the ones from TV and Movies. You can click on the link under the banner for guests in the other categories.

The expected turnout this year was 80,000. I’ll let you know what the final number winds up being. We were trending on both Facebook and Twitter this weekend.

Tomorrow starts the June Session of Camp NaNoWriMo. I wasn’t going to do it. Then I was going to redo the project from the April Session that I tried as a screenplay, but was going to do as a novel. Now I’m thinking of putting that off til November and just doing a fun fantasy novel, more befitting Summer. We’ll see how it goes.

EDIT: Second session is actually in July. More time to be indecisive.

And just cause I want to, some videos related to today’s post.

Admittedly, learned about Nikola from them.

Hellsing can get deliciously gory, so this only hints at the violence.

Old interview.

Tea & Coffee #2

If you were having coffee and I was having tea…

Sorry it’s been so long since we’ve gotten together. Reality as usual is no friend of mine. Though I was busy with something productive,  so there’s that.

I’ve been wanting to get into D&D lately. I feel the urge every now and again but the universe put a few more hints about it in my face. We shall see.

The light of my week was stopping at the blade store at the mall. There was a copy of Strider’s sword and Aragorn’s reforged sword (I know, I should know their names). But what made me catch my breath was the copy of The Kurgan’s sword from Highlander.  Another reason to win the lottery.

Did another chapter of my slash fic. I really need to be more consistent with it.

The bumps in the road are smaller this week, always good. Still just need to win the lottery, though.

The Super Bowl was good, though Seattle should have won. Not that I’m a fan of theirs, I go Dallas, but I always root for the NFC.

What darkness lies in the soul
With ne’er a candle to hold
Yet a smile shines out bright
Mirrored by the sharpened knife.

Yeah, I guess I should warn you I can get like that.  No worries, though. Trust me.

See who else is having coffee.

coffee-tea

If you were having coffee and I was having tea…we would meet at the cafe(doesn’t matter the name, they’re all just ‘the cafe’ to us). In a corner off to the side with our chosen pastries.

It’s the kind of week where I don’t want to think of real life, so we stay in pretend.

How all the Indiana Jones movies have been shown in the past couple of days.

I tell you how I need to get back to doing the Reading Challenge and how my total writing time thus far as been negligible.

About watching Jeeves & Wooster and how I wonder if anyone has live-in help anymore and if I would if I was filthy rich.

How I’m still amazed the names we can manage to get for our local Comicon every year. And my fingers crossed I can go this year. And how it chapes my hide that I will most likely miss going to the Supernatural con coming here of all places.

I wonder if I will start that fake journal I mean to do. Where I am someone else, yet still me. Where I spin out my dreams and fantasies, the closest thing to magic I can do.

A phone call cuts our visit short, but the plan is made to meet again next week.

Started over at Part Time Monster. Find out who else is having coffee.
