A – Z Challenge: Day 3 – Concentration

Sadly, a minus in my writing is my concentration.

I can come up with the ideas fine. It’s keeping my attention on finishing the fics that is another matter.

I will come across a pic or something that speaks of having a story that needs to come out. About how part of being a writer is the uncontrollable need to share the tales within.

And it makes me wonder. Cause, yeah, I would like people to read my stories. But it’s not a driving desire to the point of distraction. It’s more like, ‘wouldn’t it be nice if’.

So then am I not a writer? Or maybe just a dreamer who can happen to put the visions into words?

When I was RPing, or doing fanfic that I posted on Live Journal or Greatest Journal, I knew I had an audience. There was someone to push me to get the writing done, an obligation to friends that I talked to every night.

So now I must make friends with self-motivation.

Here’s to that journey.

A – Z Challenge: Day 2 – Blogging

So, this is not my first attempt at blogging. But it is by far my most successful.

It started like all the other times. I set up the blog, write a somewhat self deprecating first post, then a second. And in the past that would be it.

One part of the problem was the sharing aspect of a blog. When someone says to me, ‘Tell me about yourself’, I never know what to say and will ask for specific information desired.

Another part of the problem is my current status as an amateur (in the sports sense) writer. The bulk of my work is fanfic, often of an explicit nature. I am not ashamed of that fact, but it is not something that I can lay a full claim to.

What original work I have created is still in the WIP stage and so is not ready for public consumption. So when I started a blog in the past, I wasn’t entirely sure what to put on it.

But this time was different. I found the Weekend Coffee Share. That lead me to this challenge and the Villain Blogathon. I was giving myself content with which to share my likes and outlook.

In addition, I had started a drabble writing group on Facebook in an effort to get my friends to take up the pen. By sharing the drabbles, I had original works to show off.

And I wasn’t shirking the blog. I was not in the mood for a recent Weekend Coffee Share and was going to blow it off. But I did write one and it wasn’t a half-assed effort.

And people were finding me. I was getting likes, comments, and followers. I was finding blogs that interested me and following them.

For whatever reason, the blog was clicking this time. I found myself making plans on what and when I should post things. I could see this lasting past the first few efforts at posting.

I might have just jinxed everything by going on about my wee personal success. But I think I can see this being the start of a continuing thing.

A – Z Challenge: Day 1 – Avatars

I am one of those who uses actors as avatars for my characters.

When I visualize things, it is often in quick flashes. I don’t get the long camera takes. It’s there and gone. So I often do not get real visuals on my characters.

So I cast my stories like you would a movie.

In the beginning I would try to find a pic where the actor was wearing clothes similar to what would fit in the story. After many a time where this was not an option, I began instead to look for pictures where the expression on their face matched what I knew about the character.

Hindsight being what it is. I should have been doing that from the beginning. But I tend to take the long way around on things.

A curious fact, I have used Sean Bean more times than any other actor.

There is one case where a picture of an actor started a story. Matt Smith, during the wardrobe tests for Doctor Who, wore a coat and had an expression that to my mind put him in the role of a hit man.

The twist came with the decision to cast the story with actors only from the triad of SuperWhoLock.

For those who are unfamiliar, SuperWhoLock is the combined fandoms of Supernatural, Doctor Who, and BBC’s Sherlock.

Here is the link to my Pinterest board for that story. It has a fatal plot premise, but I do need to use those characters.

Two other examples would be for an urban supernatural story and a Western.

On a level I do envy those who can come up with original visuals for their characters. But it is not something I worry on and instead enjoy my whirl as a casting director.

Now if only some of them could be persuaded to follow me to this couch.

A – Z Blogging Theme Reveal

image

So I know I already said what my theme was, but this is for the official record.

I will be writing about my writing. Different aspects and dealing with it.

For my first time, the posts will be more jotting down thoughts than essays.

This should be an interesting experiment. There maybe the odd curse word, just so you know.

As a preview, here are the words:
Avatars, Blogging, Concentration, Dialogue, Editing, Fanfic, Goals, How…, Ideas, Job, Kurtail, Life, Male, NaNo, Originals, Pants-ner, Quotes, Research, Slash, Time, Unless, Villains, Why, Xcuses, Yes, Zed.

Come see what other themes are planned.

Tea and Coffee #8

It has been a long week and I am tired as usual. But it as been a good one too.

I got my tookus in gear on getting my A-Z Challenge entries done and ready to post. Just need to type them up.

And made some headway on my Camp NaNo story. Actually have an idea of how to start it. Rethinking on if want to keep it a script or do a novel.

Am so behind on Vikings and Walking Dead. Might be at least another week and half before have chance to catch up

But overall things are progressing nicely. At the moment anyway. Never good to expect too far ahead. Invites disaster.

By the by, there maybe a curse word that makes its way onto the blog during A-Z and beyond. Just along the lines of what I used tookus up there for. Just so you know..

Tea and Coffee #7

Ah, this has been a different week.

Been pulling beers at local stadium for Spring Training. We’re Cactus League around here. Stadium hosts the Mariners and the Padres.

Spent time with friends this weekend. Springtime ritual with the kindred and lunch with a former co-worker.

I need to edit my Western so can pass it around to the family.

Looks like I’ll be missing The Walking Dead for the second week and missed last week’s Vikings. Working sucks.

Cue lottery winning fantasy. So many books. So many blades.

I’m wiped so I’m going to have to leave early. See you next week?

See who else is sharing coffee here.

Ah. You will find me nicely relaxed. Been a quiet week for the most part. Did have to run an errand clear across the Valley to the rich city. But it was painless.

My best friend got Sorted into Pottermore today and she’s in Slytherin! We both had a vague thought she would end up in Gryffindor but yay, my House.

Not much to talk about. Need to get on doing my A – Z posts so I can get started on Camp NaNo. Got a plot idea and actors but not sure on the casting.

Things are rather groovy at the moment, I have to say. Hope they’re the same for you. Another pastry?

See who else is having coffee.

I would still be tired from yesterday but this weather begs to be out in a cafe. Cloudy, wind just a bit of cold. And the quick shower we just had.

There would have to be a raising of the cups for the loss of Leonard Nimoy. For what he gave and inspired.

I have been thinking how much I miss being in RPGs (Role Playing Game) lately. I was part of two major ones some years ago. I think one might still be active but the other folded after a little over a year. I was also a member of three smaller ones round the same time, one of which I created.

One was one Live Journal and the rest on Greatest Journal if remember right. Was a long time ago.

I would stay up til near dawn many a night writing in them. It was a fun time.

That’s probably where that thought to do the fake journal came from. To have that fantasy element outside of the fics. Step into another skin, as it were.

But today is a lazy day. It’s going to be hard to get up out of the chair. Really need to work on that teleportation. Along with the telekinesis.

Here’s the others sharing some coffee this weekend.
